The Sioux City Art Center never ceases to amaze. They constantly exhibit work that makes me wonder, pulls me in, and inspires me to create. The art exhibition and auction, ARTcetera ‘16, was full of all kinds of work that had me captivated as I moved through the space. This show included texture-rich sculptures, colorful batik, intricate acrylic paintings, and moody encaustic work. Engaging with each piece left me wanting to create and experiment.

From each show at the Art Center, I am always eager to apply what I’ve seen to my own photographic or encaustic work. These local and regional artists use techniques that I have learned but have never implemented into my own work. Experimenting with different qualities, within our own work, allows for creativity to flourish in ways we can only imagine.
