With a new perspective and sense of curiosity, we can authentically explore things around us. After multiple visits to Sioux Falls, I had heard about the SculptureWalk but never took the time to experience it. On a quiet Sunday afternoon, I ventured around downtown to see what it was all about.
From abstract work to animals and people, each piece brought a creative spirit to their locations. Being surrounded by office buildings and corporations, these sculptures bring a sense of joy and light to the block. Moving from one piece to the next, I spent time reading the accompanying text and exploring their intricacies and details. This interactive experience let the viewer touch the materials and see how each section was welded together. When we are around 3-Dimensional objects, we have the urge to feel the surfaces to connect with these pieces. The SculptureWalk lets our tactile nature run wild as we move through the project.
Walking around, I was able to see the impact of art in the community. The downtown area is filled with creativity and hosts events to connect people through the arts. Incorporating these sculptures, in the heart of the city, lets visitors admire the work of artists from all over. This is a way for artists to create pieces to put on display and be a part of something bigger than themselves. As the Sioux Falls creative scene continues to expand, their outreach brings people together from all backgrounds. Everyday there is always something to see, experience, and immerse yourself in, here.
Wherever you call home, or wherever the city you have settled in for the moment is, you can always find something to do, with a little effort. Thanks to the Internet and social media, we can always be aware of events happening in our city. If you find yourself bored or eager to be a part of your community, take the jump and connect with new people this week.
What might you experience if you venture out with an open mind this week?
